Lights of Boston – Boston Public Library (Copley Square)
Projection Mapping & Event Production
Lights of Boston transformed the Dartmouth Street façade of the Boston Public Library into a large-scale projection mapping experience, delivering a nightly message of peace, hope, and unity in the heart of Copley Square.
Produced by AGB Events, the concept called for a visually striking, technically precise installation that could operate seamlessly across multiple evenings in a highly visible public setting.
AVFX was selected to lead the technical execution.
The Challenge
Executing projection mapping at this scale in a public, high-traffic environment introduced several layers of complexity:
- Coordinating across multiple city agencies, vendors, and stakeholders
- Ensuring structural and technical integrity within a historic landmark setting
- Delivering consistent, high-quality visuals night after night
This required tight alignment between creative vision and technical execution.
The Solution
AVFX served as general contractor, overseeing all production elements required to bring the experience to life:
- Full coordination of staging, audio, and projection mapping systems
- Collaboration with AGB Events to align technical execution with creative content
- Management of vendor teams and city requirements to ensure smooth installation and operation
Every component was engineered for reliability, precision, and visual impact.
The Outcome
The result was a landmark projection mapping experience that activated one of Boston’s most iconic locations and drew public attention throughout its run.
The installation delivered a cohesive visual narrative at scale, reinforcing AVFX’s ability to execute complex, multi-stakeholder productions in high-profile public environments.
