Technical Director Opportunities

Position Overview This Technical Director is a key contributor at all stages of the event production process, from the initial concepting stage to postproduction follow-through. Leveraging their strong technical aptitude and collaborative leadership approach, this position works effectively with Technical Producers, Technicians, and clients to ensure a unified vision and a well-executed virtual or hybrid event.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in planning sessions to contribute ideas for project proposals
  • Produce technical drawings
  • Resolve equipment conflicts with Equipment Manager
  • Assist Technical Producers with managing timelines for preproduction, show, and postproduction
  • Serve as primary client contact on projects
  • Serve as on-site crew chief during set, show, and tear
  • Create show schedule and call cues
  • Foster a supportive, respectful work environment
  • Maintain knowledge of advances in technology, including virtual platforms
  • Adhere to safety protocols in-office and on-site
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor and/or management

Skills & Proficiencies

  • Strong project and time management ability
  • Superior organization and attention to detail
  • Aptitude for critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving
  • Ability to visualize in a multi-spatial realm
  • Excellent interpersonal communication
  • Working knowledge of projection, LED, audio, power, and lighting
  • Familiar with safe rigging practices
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel

Qualifications

  • 3 years of Technical Director experience
  • Knowledge of virtual event platforms, including but not limited to Zoom, Teams, and Hoppin
  • Experience working in the event technology and production services industry, with a concentration in corporate events and/or trade shows a plus
  • Strong CAD skills required; Vectorworks preferred

Work Environment

  • Frequent travel to off-site locations
  • Occasional travel to out-of-state locations
  • Evening and weekend availability is required

Compensation

  • $75,000 - $90,000 / salary with commission
