Democratic National Convention (Boston, MA)
Large-Scale Video Projection & Technical Design
When the 2004 Democratic National Convention came to Boston, the technical direction team needed a video solution that had never been done before.
The ask was clear: build the largest video projection screen ever used at a political convention, and make it perform flawlessly both in-room and on live broadcast.
AVFX was selected to lead the effort.
The Challenge
Designing a projection system at this scale meant balancing two competing demands:
- Visual impact inside a large, live audience environment
- Broadcast-quality performance for national television
The solution had to deliver clarity, consistency, and reliability under intense scrutiny.
The Solution
AVFX led the full technical execution, including:
- Custom video system design tailored to the venue and broadcast requirements
- Equipment sourcing and engineering for a first-of-its-kind screen build
- On-site construction, staging, and integration with the broader production environment
Every element was engineered to ensure seamless performance across both live and televised experiences.
The Outcome
The result was a record-setting projection system that elevated the visual experience for attendees while delivering clean, consistent output for a national audience.
This project reinforced AVFX’s ability to execute complex, high-visibility productions where precision and performance are non-negotiable.
