High-Fidelity Audio Can Come from The Tiniest Speaker

Steve Halling, President & CEO of AVFX, remembers a test he gave to the audience and the response that surprised nearly everyone present.

I think my favorite demo from a Showcase is one we’ve repeated a couple of times, and it’s an audio demo. It’s one where we set up a veritable garden of audio speakers so that attendees can get an idea of the breadth and depth of our offering, and see how we can customize sound systems for their specific event.

But in this garden of speakers, we hide one little speaker that’s only about 14 inches long, maybe 3/4 of an inch deep, and about an inch wide. You know, so it’s a tiny little speaker.

And then throughout the evening, I use that for my presentations when I talk to the whole audience. During my presentation, I ask people, alright, so, now I’m going to play some music, and I want you to figure out which speaker is playing this music.

So it’s “find the speaker”. I stop talking. We play music. And then we let the attendees walk around the different speakers to see if they can figure out which one is playing.

I think maybe one out of every group of people has ever figured out which loudspeaker is producing the sound.

It’s fun and a great demonstration of how great hi-fidelity audio can come from the tiniest little speaker.
