Continuing ed is a significant factor in keeping the tech staff on the cutting edge. Great gear is worthless without great people who understand the engineering behind the technology.
Yesterday we had Jerry Dixon from Extron Electronics in to teach his Digital Video Signals course. That training is an interactive examination of all the digital video signals currently being used in AV. Details on how they work, their strengths and weaknesses, how they can “fail” and how to troubleshoot and fix them are key content. In addition to the technology there was a detailed discussion of Digital Rights Management technologies (HDCP) why it is used, how it works, and how to live with it successfully in a live event environment.
Thanks Jerry for keeping us up to date.
