2020 has been remarkable in the eight-year history of Food Link, a Massachusetts-based food rescue organization supporting community organizations that feed the food insecure. Confronted by the increase in hunger caused by the rise in Covid-19 related unemployment, Food Link developed new processes and connections to rescue even more food that would have gone into the waste stream. Over 50 organizations across eastern Massachusetts that feed the hungry rely on deliveries from Food Link.
Like all nonprofits, the annual fundraising gala had to change from a face-to-face to a virtual event. Food Link decided to name the event Home Cook-In and feature chefs working with the food they deliver while educating the audience on the importance of the services they offer. Over the past eight years, Food Link has become a critical arm in the effort to offset food insecurity. Volunteers disperse to facilities throughout the region on a daily basis, rescuing foods such as fresh produce, bread, milk, eggs, and meats. These supplies are then distributed to community organizations that help alleviate food insecurity. Many of the organizations that Food Link partners with serve low-income children and families, at-risk youth, seniors, the homeless, and other vulnerable populations that don’t have regular access to healthy food.
By rescuing fresh and nutritious food, Food Link has the capacity to not only partner with organizations across Eastern Massachusetts but also keep fresh food out of the waste system—a cornerstone of protecting our planet.
AVFX was selected to produce the event and collaborate on a compelling solution that raised over $500,000 in 45 minutes. Donations will help support the opening of their new Hub in 2020.
Thanks to Food Link for the opportunity to support this vital effort.
