The New York celebration of Australia Day was chosen as the launch of a new global advertising effort to promote tourism.
Tourism Australia chose Bryant Park and AGB Events to unveil the latest chapter of the “There’s Nothing Like Australia” campaign to attract international visitors. The park became the backdrop to unveil the new broadcast ad, print and other creative materials as well as virtual reality displays and aquatic-themed images projected onto Bryant Park’s famous ice skating rink.
Aussie movie star, Chris Hemsworth, was named the official ambassador and brought out a huge New York crowd with press and paparazzi.
Our load-in was delayed by a day because the snow storm prevented our trucks from delivering our gear. New York’s already crowded side streets became impassible. That compressed an already tight schedule and required our super techs to perform above and beyond the norm.
The irony of this event was displaying the warmth and beauty of Australia during a blizzard in the heart of NYC. Lovely summer imagery appeared in stark contrast to over two feet of snow.
