Unlike other AV staging firms, AVFX has a humble ball of tape for a mascot.
When a large project is ready to go on the truck, we organize all of the shipping cases in a group, as you’d expect. We affix a strip of brightly colored tape to all of the cases for a specific shipment, so they can be identified at a glance. We ensure that all shipments are labeled with the details needed to get to the show and our color-coding scheme speeds the process.
Over seven years the ball has grown to an impressive size and at the beginning of 2016 the ball weighed 378 lbs.
Here’s where the mascot comes in.
When it’s time for our mascot’s annual physical, we always bring out the scale. Everyone gathers and posts a guess on the total. The winner gets bragging rights until next time. We love the Tape Ball because it reminds us where we’ve traveled over the past year.
This year our mascot added more than a few pounds and tipped the scale at a whopping 442 lbs*.
*442 pounds/1.6 pounds-per-roll = 276.25 rolls, or 13,812.5 yards, or 7.85 miles of tape.
BACKSTORY: No one tries to lift the tape ball since Carlos tried years ago. One beautiful Friday afternoon several of the guys were guessing the weight of the ball. Carlos stepped up and bet that he could lift it.
Luckily, the ambulance arrived quickly and Carlos was able to leave the hospital after only a few hours.
